Cam wins 14.6-mile Frozen Trail Run Fest

Great photo Michael Lebowitz – thank you!

On the perfect December day to run in the mountains, mid-30′s, rain, fog and mud, amid some tough competition I finished 1st place overall in 14.6-mile Frozen Trail Run Fest on Saturday.

I covered the quad-busting mountain course in 2 hours 10 seconds and loved the test of every measured stride as I had to battle the previous year’s winner, Rob Hendrickson, and a talented 27-year old runner, Luke Vaughn, pretty much the entire race. Great guys. It was fun to share the trail with them and we really pushed it….an awesome workout to be sure.

In addition, my weight lifting partner and trainer, Nick Hammond, and fellow bowhunter, Joe Santiago, ran their first ever race…a difficult 8-mile loop on muddy trails around the mountain.

In truth, what I did doesn’t at all compare to how cool it was to see Nick and Joe out there for the first time. To see guys pushing out of their comfort zone and living new, exciting experiences in the name of bowhunting is very rewarding to me. I was very motivated to give my best because of THEM.

Check out a fun “bonus” hunt….the mission – save moose by arrowing a couple big AK black bear. And, catch some King salmon (which we did). Incidentally, Roy and I shoot the exact same set up which is why we were able to “share” a bow. For information on setting up your own AK adventure Roy can help. Emal me (cam@cameronhanes.com) and I will give you his contact info. Cam

Jason Aldean & Train Hard. Hunt Easy. in Salt Lake City

October 25, 2011

Denver or Salt Lake….where did I want to go see Jason Aldean in concert? Through fellow Under Armour athlete and my elk hunting buddy from this past season, Adam LaRoche of Buck Commanders and the Washington Nationals, Jason A. said he’d give me tickets and passes to whichever show I wanted to attend. Beings I [...]

The Impossible Dream: Four Bulls Arrowed on Film in 2011

The Impossible Dream: Four Bulls Arrowed on Film in 2011 (click twice to fully enlarge photos) Two days ago in New Mexico I arrowed my fourth bull of the season from 63 yards just after he stood from his high desert bed and headed over to check a nearby cow. I’d been hunkered down, slightly [...]

First Round KO in Colorado

September 15, 2011

First Round KO in Colorado I have been on some long, tough epic mountain hunts that to me seemed similar to what a brutal five round UFC title fight must feel like. I’ve come off the mountain many times very much feeling beat up and broke down. Back at the trailhead, sometimes I shrug off [...]

Wow, It Ain’t Even September Yet!

September 1, 2011

I love setting big goals and then, spilling blood, sweat and tears trying to achieve them. My goal prior to this season was to help Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Team Elk TV, airing on Outdoor Channel, make powerful outdoor television and along the way fill all my archery tags by arrowing quality animals on film.
